이사무 노구치(1904-1988)는 일본인 아버지와 미국인 어머니 사이에서 태어났다.
출생뿐 아니라 평생 동안 일본, 미국, 유럽을 옮겨 다니며 살았는데 이로 인해 그의 작품에는 다른 디자이너에 비해 일본적인 느낌이 강하다.
디자이너이기 이전에 조각가인 그는 가구를 디자인할 때도 효율적이고 기능적인 형태만을 추구하지 않은 것 같다.
단순한 재료를 가지고 만든 이 의자도 상어 지느러미 같기도한 비대칭적인 다리의 균형이 마치 조각 작품 같다.
미국의 Herman Miler에서 생산했다.
